Cookley in Bloom has been the vision of CCAG member and Parish Councillor, Bill Southam for a number of years and in 2018, with only 8 weeks to prepare, Bill and a team of community volunteers took on the challenge of entering Cookley into the ’large village’ category of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition.
Following a meeting of over 40 members of the Cookley community, a village ‘In Bloom’ route was chosen and then a huge variety of work was undertaken by members of the community. Work included planting, painting, cleaning, litter picking, bunting making and even cake baking… focusing on Elizabeth Bache Corner, our local shopping area and local businesses, bus shelters, Cookley Sebright Primary School / Forest School, Cookley Playing Fields and bowling green and also the beautiful canal walks.
Cookley In Bloom is brilliant example of what can be achieved in a short time with the power of community spirit. Judging took place on June 26th. The results will be announced in September 2018.
